We hold prize bingo twice a year one at Easter and the other at Christmas. Our thanks to those people who donate prizes for these events and also to our regular supporters who attend the bingo and help us to raise funds by so doing.
Last prize bingo held 28th January 2011 raised £176.00
Once again we were pleased to welcome back members of the BVA for their annual tractor road run. After hot drinks and biscuits to fortify them against the cold the various tractors set of towards Chipping Warden and on through Edgecote where they stopped for mince pies and a welcome drink. After this break they continued on the back roads through various villages and then back towards Woodford.
On arrival back at Woodford they were greeted with a selection of hot food and the opportunity to discuss the events of the road run including several breakdowns! Thanks must go to those who participated in this event and to the ladies who provided the food, in doing so raising funds for The Trust of £135.00.
Santa was once again in great demand delivering many presents to various locations in the village on his sleigh. On Christmas morning Santa and his helpers were up early to check his transport and get all his presents loaded carefully on to his sleigh. All the snow and ice before Christmas and low temperatures made conditions this year a little treacherous.
A thank you to all who supported Santa and helped to raise £120.00.
Santa was out on his sleigh in early December with Woodford Halse Fire Service visiting all in the village and local surrounding villages of Eydon and Byfield.
Our thanks to volunters from the Fire Service and The Trust who braved the very cold weather and slippery conditions underfoot for four nights running. A huge thank you to Santa/St Nick for his help at what is his busiest time of year.
Our heartfelt thanks go to all who gave their support and donations, to help The Trust and Firefighters Charity to raise between them a fantastic £1,777.88 – THANK YOU TO ALL.
The second time these two teams have meet and it was the turn of Byfield CC to host the event. It was a cold grey Sunday in September when these two sides came face to face to do battle. With the teams made up of players selected from across the respective clubs three sides but at the same time balanced where possible to make them of equal strength. It was under this rule that Byfield conceded to drop there demon strike bowler from the previous game namely Ian (the swerve) Reekie. Following the toss and a minutes silence in honour of Daniel, The game got underway and it soon went the way off Woodford, Steve (2 ducks ) Clayton was on his way back to the warmth of the club house without a run to his name, several more came and went before Ginger Watts and Nigel Cook came together to give Byfield a respectable total of 120 runs. So to Woodfords innings. With Richard (the Butcher) Marriott sending the ball to all parts off the field ably supported by Joe Haynes this total was never in doubt or so we thought. Suddenly Byfields bowlers found their line and with some sharp fielding wickets started to fall at regular intervals with the last wicket falling Woodford once again were a few runs short. Still it’s not all about winning it’s the taking part that counts, Or that’s what you tell your self.
So it was to tea Burgers, beans and jacket potatoes washed down with any amount of tea this really did hit the spot on such a cold day.
No amount of Thanks can go to Bob Lowe , Mick Lamb and there team of helpers for their generous hospitality and in helping to raise further funds for the Trust.
Next year Woodford host the event and have a lot to aspire to and who knows may be their first victory over there closest friendly rivals.
September saw the setting up off a village street 6 a side cricket tournament. A competition where the teams are formed from the Streets and Neighbourhood’s within Woodford, open to all players young and old male or female those with ability or those without. This wasn’t the best supported event we have held and the weather wasn’t the best it could have been but all the people who took part gave it their all. The eventual winners on the day were Brookside who proudly retired to the bar with their trophy and prize. Many thanks to all those that took part and those that were press ganged into it. We look forward to the next one and lets hope it can be bigger and better.
This years event held on 15/08/2010 at Hellidon Golf Club was once again well attended although there were still some places available on the day. After meeting up at Woodford Uniteds sports club for a Bacon roll and warm drink, it was down to the serious part of the day.Handicaps were awarded which led to a little grumbling by some and a sly smile from others and then off to the course. Much jovial banter and bravado greeted everyone on the first tee as they watched each other on there merry way all secretly hoping not to make idiots of them selves in-front off the onlookers. With the weather staying fine and the accompanying drinks trolley good spirits and serious play went hand in hand all the way to the 18th hole where the players waited on the balcony to see everyone home. It was then back to Woodford for food and drinks and the presenting of the vast array of prizes. This Years Winner was Martyn Bannister
A Very Big Thank You must go to Martyn & Keith Bannister who some how find all the prizes and organise the whole day.To the ladies who provide the food and to all the competitors for there help in raising £268.00
The second running of this popular event was held on a cold & windy Sunday in May, being totally different to the previous year where we had blue skies, bright sunshine and a lovely warm day. That said the conditions were probably better for the runners if not for the helpers.
The event which is open to contestants of all ages and abilities raises funds for the TRUST or any other worthy cause by way of a small registration fee and sponsorship.
